Recycling
(The information below comes from the
City of
Pocatello Sanitation Department Web site):
Pocatello doesn't
currently have a curbside recycling program. However, you can drop off certain
types of garbage at five drop-off points in the city. All take newspaper,
milk jugs, plastic bottles, tin cans, aluminum cans, and cardboard. Magazines
also can be recycled at the Sister City Park, City
Hall, Bannock Highway and E. Putnam locations.

- NEWSPAPER
- Anything that comes with the newspaper is
accepted. Magazines, junk mail, school papers, etc., are not accepted.
- MILK JUGS
- Any type of plastic milk jug is accepted. Rinse
the jugs out, remove the lids, and crush the jugs flat to make more room in
the box.
- PLASTIC BOTTLES
- Any plastic bottle with a 1 or 2 inside the
recycle symbol found on the bottom. Butter tubs, yogurt containers, etc., have
the correct symbol, but are not accepted by Pocatello's market. Rinse the bottles out,
remove the lids, and crush the bottles flat to make more room in the box.
- TIN CANS
- Cans that food comes in are usually the only
acceptable type. Paint cans, buckets, etc., are not acceptable. Rinse the cans
out.
- ALUMINUM CANS
- Any type of aluminum beverage container is
acceptable. Aluminum foil is also accepted.
- CARDBOARD
- Corrugated cardboard is the only type accepted at
this time. Please break boxes down flat.
- MAGAZINES
- Magazines only may be
recycled at the Sister City Park, City Hall, and Bannock Highway recycling
sites. Catalogs and Junk Mail are not acceptable.
- OFFICE PAPER
- Office paper may be recycled at the Bannock County
Landfill, Fibres International, 3757 Old Highway 91
and Pacific Recycling, Highway 30 West.
- WASTE OIL
- Waste oil is accepted at Grease Monkey; 710 W.
Quinn.
- PACKING PEANUTS
- Styrofoam packing peanuts may be recycled at both
Mail Boxes Etc. locations (775 Yellowstone and 350
S. 4th) and The Box Stop,
2990 Pole Line Road.
- Also: PLASTIC
SHOPPING BAGS (either the lighter grocery or the heavier department store
type): If you don't reuse your plastic grocery bags, they can be recycled at
any Albertson's Grocery.
